Day Two – In Search Of Water

This is the end of my first day and the beginning of the second day of my trip this past weekend.  Since the waterfalls were all dry, pretty much anyway, the prettiest things were just above the waterfall or just below them most of the time.  When we went below the falls and tried to photograph them you couldn't even see the little bit of water that was coming over the top at a few of the really good ones.

Just above DeSoto Falls

After this we crossed into Tennessee and made the mistake of starting on a 4 mile hike at noon having not eaten since 6:30AM.  We were so far from anything we just went ahead and went, bad mistake!  We had left the natural bridge and gone down the road to a trail to Buggytop Cave.  The trail went up and down for 2 miles before you got to the cave which was at the bottom of a huge cliff.  Inside the cave was very cool, but once again very little water at the waterfalls.

Finally we got back to the cars and found a place to eat at Monteagle.  Then we went to two more waterfalls, I should say creeks, before finding our hotel near Manchester, TN.  We were so tired!

Lower Greeter Falls

The next morning we went to Rutledge Falls and found a little bit of water!  But Keith cracked his head open on a rock on the way down to the falls, he was watching his feet and not looking at the rocks hanging out of the side of the trail.  So our morning started out pretty bad, I won't show the photograph I took of his head.
